What is Amperlo?
Amperlo is EV cost tracking software. You record charging sessions (marina, public, home, or gratis), mileage, and receipts. From that ledger the app derives:
- Cost-per-mile in three modes — Energy, Running (energy plus maintenance), and TCO (running plus depreciation)
- Savings vs petrol against a configurable baseline (mpg and pump price)
- Prepaid block status for marina shore-power or a home tariff balance — blended rate, burn-rate style projections, nights-remaining style estimates

What Amperlo isn’t
Clarity beats a soft pitch.
Amperlo is not a charger finder. It does not replace Zap-Map, network apps, or live availability maps. You still open those when you need a plug. Amperlo is for after (and sometimes during) the charge: what did that kWh cost, and what does that mean per mile?
It is not a fleet or enterprise platform as the primary product. Small multi-vehicle households and light business use fit the Base plan’s vehicle quota; large fleets, SSO-first procurement, and on-prem volume deals are a conversation, not the homepage story.
It is not “AI-powered EV magic” as the headline. Receipt parsing helps you avoid typing. You still confirm the draft. The value is the honest ledger, not a chatbot telling you EVs are cheap.
It is not a source of invented savings. There are no baked-in “you’ll save £X a year” claims. Savings vs petrol only make sense against your mpg and your pump price. Cost-per-mile only makes sense against your charges and miles.
It is not a spreadsheet replacement that pretends spreadsheets never existed. Plenty of drivers already track costs in Excel or Notion. Amperlo is for people who are done maintaining that sheet by hand — especially when marina blocks, VAT lines and mixed public tariffs make the sheet messy.
Who is Amperlo for?
UK EV drivers who care about running costs. If you charge on public networks, at home, at a marina, or some mix of the three, and you want a real p/mile rather than a press-release average, you are the core audience.
Business EV drivers. If the car is used for work, you care about mileage, receipts, and VAT. Public and marina charges can be tracked with an ex/inc VAT split so your accountant gets something usable instead of a photo dump.

How does EV cost and tariff tracking work in Amperlo?
Honest cost tracking is mostly bookkeeping with clear definitions.
Charge sources
Sessions are typed so blends stay honest:

Mixing sources without labels is how “average cost” lies to you. Labelling them is how a blended rate stays meaningful.
Cost-per-mile modes
Same car, same period, three answers — because “how much does it cost to run?” is three different questions:
- Energy — electricity only (pence per mile from delivered kWh and what you paid)
- Running — energy plus maintenance ledger items (service, tyres, MOT, insurance and so on)
- TCO — running plus depreciation, for the “was buying this EV actually worth it versus keeping the old car?” question
You pick the mode that matches the question you are asking. Articles that quote a single “EVs cost Xp/mile” number usually pick the flattering mode. Amperlo keeps all three visible.
Savings vs petrol
You set a petrol baseline: mpg and pump price (pence per litre). Amperlo compares your EV cost-per-mile against that baseline. When pump prices move, you update the baseline so the comparison stays honest rather than frozen to last year’s garage receipt.
Prepaid blocks
Marina shore-power and some home setups sell electricity in prepaid kWh blocks. Amperlo tracks the purchase (kWh, rate, cost, VAT where relevant), meter readings of kWh remaining, and derived views: blended rate across blocks, burn-rate style projection, and nights-remaining style estimates. That is the niche almost nobody else bothers with — and the reason a marina morning photo of the meter display is a first-class input, not an afterthought.
Receipts and VAT
For public and marina charges, costs can be stored with an ex-VAT / VAT / inc-VAT split. That supports VAT-reclaim-ready reporting for business use. Home and gratis typically have nothing to reclaim; the ledger still records the energy and miles.
Snap or email a receipt and the parsing feature can draft kWh, cost, VAT, network, discount and tariff into a session for review. You confirm or correct before it becomes “truth” in the stats. Stats are computed from source rows — not from a denormalised marketing number stuck on the vehicle.
Trips and maintenance
Named trips cover a date range or an odometer range so a holiday or a work week has its own cost view. The maintenance ledger keeps service, tyres, MOT, insurance and similar in the same product as charges, which is what makes Running and TCO modes more than a slogan.

You do not need to log perfectly from day one. Gaps are normal. The numbers get more trustworthy as the ledger fills — that is the point of a logbook.
What problems does Amperlo solve?
“I don’t know what this EV actually costs.” Network apps show a session total. They do not stitch marina blocks, home units, gratis charges and maintenance into one p/mile you trust.
